I Felt Like a Floppy Noodle

Crusade was quite the experience, to say the least! A Crusade is basically an evangelistic series which is often accompanied by medical missionaries. We go out, heal the people physically and invite them to become spiritually healed by Jesus through our nightly meetings, church and bible studies. For me this involved tons of kids, friendly people, extreme UV rays and a gorgeous lake. It was chaos and ministry wrapped up in sand, sun and wacky food. Crusade forced me to grow and stretch: camping in a tent for 3 weeks, leading a children’s program, cooking for 18 people without instructions over charcoal, and a 13 hour road trip that turned into 57 hours. It’s been an intense experience and one I wouldn’t trade for anything!  I would like to share some of my unexpected journey and musings you... One afternoon, I was asked to share a mission story and so I shared my grandma's story about a village in Alaska, while standing in the shade of the mango trees. I was telling them about the

Sept 21 - We woke up “late” at 7 am and met for worship. Unfortunately, my tent/roommates and I woke up an hour early, because our phones picked up Tanzania time... big oof. We had worship and started our day.  We worked on food and setting up where we would have the crusade.  My 2 pocket knives came in handy with the kitchen and wires and screens for the projector. We dug holes in the sand to place the poles to string the lights.  I offered to help, but the men kept taking over.  They were always surprised when I could carry something or cut something. They would say, “very powerful” in their African accents. They were also surprised I knew how to wrap wires around my arm, to keep it from getting tangled. (I guess Pathfinders has prepared me for lots of different experiences!)  We strung lights and made sure everything worked, we then packed it all up so we could relax and get ready for the evening program.  I was put in charge of the Children's Corner for the crusade.
